JESSICA MARLIESE PLANTER
Jessica was born in Poway, California. Raised in a trailer park, she lived an unrestrained yet frugal childhood, which lead to an intuitive expression and adaptability of available materials within her work. Her mother began to realize that she had a natural flair and love for art and creativity when Jessica was seven and enrolled her in art classes in an independent artist’s garage. Since then her art education has not ceased aside from a short pause when she moved to Brooklyn, NY in 2006. During which time she played drums for a post-punk band, The Nasties. After three years of settling into her new environment, she decided to revisit her love for visual art and enrolled in a four-year program at The Fashion Institute of Technology’s School of Art and Design. Jessica spent her fourth semester studying abroad in Florence, Italy. She graduated from FIT in May 2013 with a BFA in Art History and a minor in Art History. She continues to paint in Brookyn, NY, delving deeper into the theme of identity through portraits of New Yorkers, caught up in the chaos of the city’s fast-paced metropolitan lifestyle. |
